My mass communication experience is grounded in years of journalism. My studies in reporting and convergence journalism at Campbell University led to opportunities in Manhattan, Washington, D.C., and ultimately a paid internship at the News & Observer in Raleigh.
Upon transferring to UNC-Chapel Hill, I explored the J-School’s specializations. Torn between public relations and advertising, I chose a hybrid sequence — the strategic communication track. My recent work experience reflects my varied interests in mass communication and marketing. I have created social media content in an advertising agency environment and in-house for a start-up. My junior year I became immersed in the health communications realm, doing marketing and public relations for both a community health center (class client) and a software tech company. Then, in the summer of 2014, Cisco Systems in RTP hired me as a market intelligence intern.
